You can generally find Jay somewhere west of the Rocky Mountains. Look first in the high deserts. He is an aspiring fly fisherman, mountain bike rider, and house-builder. He’s an old rugby player, a retired Army officer, and a part-time attorney. He loves being outside, traveling to places he’s never been, and trying to write things people like to read.

When I was a young man the list of shit I wouldn't do was short, and most of that included drugs. Now I find myself more often running to the solitary and the quiet and great writers, even when I spend as much time looking words up as I do reading them. Or: Skip Bran Castle, with its line jumpers and scads of teenage girls and vape pens, that absolute scourge of smells. Take a nice drive in the countryside instead. Read some Cormac McCarthy.

OK! Thank you to door=jar for publishing my speculative nonfiction piece "Triumph", based on a great-grandfather's journey in the late 1800s from South Syria to Mexico. This is one of my favorite things I've written, and I feel lucky as hell that door=jar was willing to put it into print. 1. Orthodox Christians. Lots of them. Wikipedia says they have a 95% approval rate. Come to America! JK. Terrible idea.
2. Thoughts. Particularly on their northern neighbor.
3. Voices. Love the chin in hand casualness of my man in the middle. "Do you like my tenor range? So do I. And it's so easy. Drink your wine. Stop filming me."
4. Hot air balloons. Except it was hooked to a cable.
5. Ferris wheels. Would you like to entrust your life to Soviet metallurgy? Perhaps. The dudes in the leather apron-and-sledgehammer statues are always pretty yoked, so I bet the steel is sturdy. You should ride the Ferris wheel. Go ahead.
6. 1800s mining town architecture. This place is begging for hipsters.

8. This Georgian smokeshow, once known as Josif Dzhugashvili. Things went downhill after smallpox and losing that hair modeling gig.
9. Wine. I mean WINE. And khinkali. I had some at a roadside restaurant that tasted like heaven, if heaven were dough and meat au jus. Also cheese. And more cheese. Not sure if they have toilets in Tblisi, because I haven't needed one. JK! Too much info, but serves you right for reading this far in. #rememberwhoyouwantedtobe
